Vasantham Star 2007

As some of you would already know, we have our very own ICC member, Vignesh, participating in Vasantham Star 2007. The show will be telecasted live, indicating that we can go down to support our fellow member and give him motivation. Tickets are available at Bestway Building (near International Plaza at Tanjong Pagar), Level 5. Each person is entitled to 4 tickets. The show is on Sunday 26th August, 6pm at Caldecott Broadcast Centre.

Please give me an immediate reply if you are interested in coming down with us to support Vignesh. We would need to make arrangements to collect the tickets for you if you are coming for the show. You can contact me at 81633464.

Thank you.

Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu 2007

The islandwide treasure hunt kicked off on Monday 18th June 2007 at 9pm at SIM HQ, with a total of 10 participating teams (each consisting of 3 respective members), including TP, RP, NP, NYP, NIE & NTU. Considering the fact that the event was on a weekday, we were glad that many schools came forward to register to try their luck in clinching the cash prizes and of course, to have fun as well! Some of the checkpoints included places like SINDA building @ Balestier, The Cage @ Kallang, Alkaff Mansion, Bedok Jetty and the final checkpoint - Palawan beach @ Sentosa, where the prize-giving & closing of the event took place at the Southern Most Part of Continental Asia.

The Champions of the game was the girls' team from NIE-NTU...
while the 1st & 2nd runners-up titles were both clinched by the dudes from NTU...

Despite having their exams around the corner, we're indeed proud of the fact that the organizing team (comprising of Ali, Safiya, Rafi, Navin, Polly & Val) behind this event made sure everything flowed smoothly without any major problems. Soliciting for sponsors was another major feat they had to overcome & we're proud that they managed to do so effortlessly.

Attributing to the success of Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu 2007, SIM ICC has proudly declared the event as our very own trademark event and hope to continue with the organizing of this game on an annual basis, so as to further establish our club as an accomplished one.

Last but not least, a VERY BIG THANK YOU! to all our ICC members who reported early in the morning (donning their VV jerseys!) to help out in the event as checkpoint leaders, marshallers & ushers, without whom which this event wouldn't have been possibly a success. You guys have been an awesome bunch!

NUS Sports Spectra 2007

This annual sporting competition organized for Indian youths from various Junior Colleges and Tertiary Institutions by the NUS Tamil Language Society, with the aims to interact and foster bonds with our Indian youth community, took place on Sunday 18th February 2007 at the NUS Sports & Recreation Center (SRC).

The event kicked off at 8 am and saw a total participation of 21 Soccer teams and 16 Captain’s Ball teams competing enthusiastically for the Kalan Cup. This year’s Captain’s Ball tournament saw the introduction of “Power Play” and the Shield Format. Furthermore, professional Netball Association umpires refereed the matches. These additions indeed increased the competitive spirit among players and raised the overall quality of the tournament. The Soccer tournament was further enhanced this year by the presence of the referees and talent scouts from the Football Association of Singapore (FAS).

Our girls' team came in 3rd in Captain's Ball after a fierce battle. Our guys' Soccer team did not do too bad either. They managed to pull 2 wins and nothing less than draws, considering the fact that the team was put together in just 1 month. Special thanks should go to Samy for coaching the guys' Soccer team. We may not have won the first prize but we are champions in our own right.

Well done, guys & girls!

Oli 96.8FM Campus Challenge

Vignesh (from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) & Rekha (from University of Buffalo, State University of New York) did the honours of representing SIM ICC in the Campus Challenge 2007 organized by local radio station Oli 96.8FM earlier in January & won in the duet category of singing.
Vignesh is a versatile singer whose passion for singing has spurred him to participate in various singing competitions of which he has won in some, while Rekha is a vocally-trained classical singer who's been learning how to sing since her younger days.
We're indeed proud of their achievement! Great job, guys!
